Ohio entrepreneurs are more optimistic about their businesses than most others across the country, according to a new survey.
The survey ranked Ohio small businesses as among the top five in the nation for hiring prospects, and charted a notable increase in local entrepreneurs’ optimism for both future financial conditions and profitability.
Thumbstack.com’s Small Business Sentiment Survey, designed in conjunction with Bloomberg, polled 10,000 nationwide small business owners last month about their feelings on a variety of economic issues, including hiring plans, financial conditions and projected profitability. Of those 10,000, 360 were located in Ohio. While the results pointed to an overall dip in optimism among small business owners last month, the Ohio responses defied that trend, indicating more optimism than most of their peers.
“Ohio’s small businesses reported a slight improvement in July, bucking a national downward trend,” said Thumbstack in a press release issued alongside the findings.

A number of small business owners spoke with The Clermont Sun, putting some real names and faces to these positive findings. Hank Pryor, who owns Kingdom Productions in Union Township, told the news outlet that his company has grown exponentially in the last four years, and estimates that it’ll “double or triple in size” over the next two to three years, bringing another five to 10 employees on board in the process. Karman Singleton, the owner of Fashion Up Boutique Consignment in Union, added that she’s “very optimistic, and sales are going great […] New customers come in every day, and existing customers are coming back regularly.”
